September is National Food Safety Education Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about safe practices that prevent foodborne illness.  So many more details exist beyond what ends up in reports and headlines.

In this unique lecture, food policy professor and author Dr. Darin Detwiler explores the events of 1993 and after from both a first-hand perspective and an academic viewpoint.  The video includes a focus on how E.coli was declared an illegal adulterant, the USDA’s Food Safe Handling Labels, the USDA’s Pathogen Reduction Program, and how the industry initially responded to food safety concerns.
