What allies are to PEP Nexus

When looking at any issue in our world today, there are four lenses by which you can view it: awareness, allies, advocacy, and activism. Not everyone can embrace all of them but everyone can embody at least one of them. After someone becomes aware of an issue they can decide to become an ally.

What do you believe creates a strong ally in the world of food safety?

PEP Nexus believes that allies are a key part of succeeding in making our food supply safe. An ally does not need to solely be an individual but also any entity that actively supports and collaborates with others to enhance food safety standards and practices.

The image above shows the interior of a restaurant in Little Rock Arkansas called The Root Cafe, who locally source nearly all of the food on their menu. This is one type of ally even in the realm of food safety. Not only because of the food safety practices they operate with, but also because with locally sourced food if there is an issue with an ingredient, the source can be identified and handled quickly. Plus their food was delicious!

Allies play a crucial role in sharing knowledge, resources, and expertise to prevent foodborne illnesses and ensure the safe production, handling, and consumption of food. Important allies in this field include regulatory bodies such as the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), international organizations like the World Health Organization (WHO), industry associations such as the International Association for Food Protection (IAFP), academic institutions conducting food safety research, and non-governmental organizations advocating for consumer protection and public health. Inside and outside of these various groups are leaders, experts and the people on the production floor or serving line.

These allies work together to promote a unified approach to food safety, ensuring a safer food supply chain globally.
