PEP Nexus is committed to learning about the perspectives of other organizations when it comes to the 4A's. So we asked Tia Glave of Catalyst and co-host of the podcast Real Talk with Tia & Jill to provide us with her take on the 4A's and how they relate to the challenges food companies face and the need for leadership skills to drive cultural change and solve these issues.
Awareness: Why is it important?
Catalyst is on a mission to transform how people lead in food so they are empowered to live authentically, achieve more, and enable business growth. We use proven coaching principles to tap into internal motivations to help leaders create sustainable behavior changes that impact business culture and outcomes. Because culture is about people, leadership skills, or people skills, are needed to build the competencies needed to drive culture.
Currently, food organizations are attempting to tackle food safety culture the way we tackle processes and equipment issues. We focus on adding more technical skills and technical tools. Even though technical skills and tools are needed to drive FOOD SAFETY forward, it does not tackle the issue of CULTURE. Therefore, we continue to have difficulties with talent retention and engagement, employee empowerment to speak up and solve problems, workload, and overall employee well-being. Ensuring your teams have the necessary leadership skills to drive culture will help solve these issues.
Allies: What roles do they play in your work?
Allies are those who embody the mission of transforming how people lead in food. They know we cannot continue to do what we've been doing. We must do something different. Allies help spread our mission! The Allies who listen to Real Talk share episodes and initiate discussions inside and outside of their organizations. They may also participate in a Catalyst Online Learning course, or one of Catalyst's leadership development courses.
Advocacy: What drives it for you?
Advocates are committed to Catalyst and our approach to transforming leaders in food. Catalyst's approach is driven by pure coaching because it is proven to tap into internal motivations and gifts. Coaching is proven to increase well-being, team engagement, retention, and other issues we see with culture. Advocates recommend organizations that are looking to develop their leaders and solve their culture to partner with Catalyst for ongoing leadership development.
We encourage people to strengthen their advocacy by participating in one of our leadership development courses to experience Catalyst for themselves!
Activism: How would you define it related to your focus?
Activism is creating your own avenue of expression (i.e. Linkedin Live, Youtube, Podcast, social media posts) and sharing Catalyst's mission and solutions to their network. A handful of our guests are activists. They share Catalyst details on their platforms by inviting the co-founders to speak or mentioning our solutions when appropriate.
