September is National Food Safety Education Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about safe practices that prevent foodborne illness.  One aspect that we can find as a blessing or a curse is that of cultural differences around the globe… and this shapes how food safety is viewed from place to place.

In this fascinating interview, food policy expert Dr. Darin Detwiler speaks with Dr. Morrine Omolo, Ph. D. At the time, she was a Food Safety Research Scientist at University of Minnesota, today, she is a quality engineer for JonnyPops. You can also view our conversation about food recalls in my newer series: “That’s What I Recall” - https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PL4Jc9sfqyXcWkDvE95_5i_7zlAiBRKSXK&feature=shared

Dr. Omolo talks about being a ‘Woman of Color in Science” and her journey from Kenya to Minnesota – as well as traveling to Asia and back to Kenya. So many surprises in this conversation about food safety!
